Episode 185 To Know Or Not To Know
Quick synopsis: Cevahir, the unknown commodity. Cevdet wants to spill the beans. Baran is jittery.
Cevahir has come to the mansion with condolences about Kerem. Baran knows him. He is a fellow businessman. Dilan is introduced. Sabiha seems nervous for this to happen. Cevahir pretends not to know Sabiha when she walks back up. Shady, definitely shady this one. Baran watches this closely. As they are walking away, Havin asks the question we all are: Did you know that they knew each other? No, she did not. Cevahir never mentioned it. But, in an about face of revenge plans, she vows to protect Dilan and her husband from him.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend, I guess?
And she is curious, taking a page from Dilan's book: Why does Cevahir hate Baran?
Cevriye confronts Hanife about how Dilan came to the family and the letter from her biological father. No wonder she gave Dilan up as a vendetta bride so easily. Cevdet overhears Dilan was adopted. I think this plot is close to coming to fruition too.
In other news, Kader is still tepid toward Dilan.
Dilan finds out she's going to be an aunt.
Cevahir has a charitable foundation too.* It's for kids. Kerem made a donation on behalf of the Karabeys. Baran is invited to a party for the foundation. The Karabeys are apparently the biggest donors.
Cevdet is having a hard time with Dilan being adopted. Hanife was known to be harder on her. He's pretty mad. He's read the letter. Dilan fulfilled a vendetta she had nothing to do with.
Dilan goes to the study to tell Baran her good aunt news. She starts with, how is he doing? Now that he sees her, he's better. It's nice to see them be happy with each other, to each other, again. She's going to be an aunt! The most beautiful aunt (with a face caress). Should they go to her brother's for a visit? Now? In the midst of their grief over Kerem? Now is the only time to go. Kerem's death taught him that. No more delaying anything. Especially as it concerns her.
Lovey Dovey FrownyBaran has been thinking on things.
She kisses him on the cheek and he nearly turns so their mouths touch--but they are interrupted By Kudret's knock at the door, Cihan in tow. Kerem had prepared a dossier on Sabiha but when Baran goes to get it to share with his dad and brother, it's gone.
Firat has come back from his visit with Derya and has a bone to pick with his father. Mainly, his part in breaking up Gul and him. And it wasn't just some skipped over info or a lie by omission. He actually planted a check in Gul's purse for Firat to find.
Azade steps in. She agrees with Hasan. (Big surprise.) He doesn't deny it either, saying Gul wasn't right for their family. The subterfuge bothers neither of them.**
Kudret has his own tail on Sabiha and he almost found out she went to Cevahir's office.
Cevahir has an impressive key ring with lots of old fashioned keys. Why? Who knows. That dude has some hang-ups though, that's for sure. Maybe they fit his own collection of heart boxes?
Baran is really upset about this missing file. And he's giving Dilan the stink eye. He isn't thinking she took it, but the missing info in that file has him on edge. He didn't get a chance to look through it before it went missing and now he's back on high alert. Dilan can't go out alone. And the trip to her brother's is off. Man, he's ticked. This missing dossier is indicative of a larger security issue. Replace the current staff with guys from Mardin? Sure. But then a whole bunch of people will be out of work. They'll find jobs for them elsewhere.
Plus, he's a little panicked about losing more people in his life.
Dilan calls Sabiha. She doesn't have it, but she thinks she knows who does...
Sabiha is thus recategorized as no longer the enemy.
Firat confesses that he knows everything about the lying. Why didn't she tell him? If only she'd said--she cuts him off. It's her fault now? He calls her Darling, begs her forgiveness. She tears out of his grip as Kader rounds the corner. She is a mama lion. Oh Firat, my poor toad. Now you're messing with a-- Well, you know.
She starts in on him. You have nothing left to give her. But Firat gives no quarter either. He will not rest until he's back in her good graces. Moslty though, he just wants to keep Gul from doing something that will make her unhappy, like marrying Silah.
Baran is freaking out, y'all. Dilan comes back from her walk and he's livid because he couldn't find her. It's the overbearing stuff again but this time he grabs no part of her, and she tells him off for treating her like a child, and walks off, leaving him to slow blink at himself for overreacting.
Cevdet's beef with not telling Dilan about her past is that she was expendable in his parent's eyes, the obvious choice for the Karabey vendetta. They gave her up to protect their family, whereas he thinks of her as family. He's a lot like Baran. Once the truth is known he won't keep quiet. His family is worried the vendetta will be reignited and they'll come for him instead. Dilan calls him back after their call was interrupted, but he doesn't answer.
Baran brings a peace offering of tea to Dilan. He's sorry; she accepts. But wishes he'd talked to her instead of lashing out. He confides that there is a breach in mansion security. No visits until they figure this out. She is to stay by his side.*** He couldn't bear to lose anyone again, or see them hurt. Especially her. He tucks her in close. He has a hunch there's still someone messing with them. This is no mere nigging worry.
Y'all. She's knitting baby booties with cherries on them for Cevriye's twins. OMG. They are super cute. Since she couldn't reach Cevdet, she calls her sister-in-law instead. They have an awkward conversation. Her mom also doesn't want to come to the phone. (She's terrified.) It reminds Dilan of all the times she was overlooked by her growing up. Baran steps in. You have me now. He pulls her in close, caressing her face.
Firat is the first one to breakfast in the morning as Gul is laying out the silverware. It's too late for them, she tells him. Oh no it's not! He makes some convincing points about still being so in love with her. No dice. I wonder what it's going to take?

Aside from just missing Kerem terribly, there's all the stuff he used to do too. Baran is having to take that over as well, all while thinking about him. Dilan makes an answering pledge to him: I'm always here for you.
Derya's lawyer calls Baran; she wants to meet. Baran is going but Dilan needs to stay at home, where she's protected. That seems legit. At the prison, Baran slams his hand down on the table. Derya starts blubbering. Cut to the chase, lady. She confesses to being behind the wedding raid. To everything actually.
He's confused. Wasn't that Sabiha?
Dilan hasn't been able to reach her brother. The call with Cevriye was weird. Then he refused her call back. Yesterday's visit was cancelled. Baran says maybe today after he gets back. Something must have happened with her brother and she's worried. Baran will be furious if she leaves but she has to see her brother.
Forget furious Dilan, you could be dead. I mean, it really is the worst of the two, non? At this point, it just seems like folly.
Cevahir is playing with a staple puller. He has weird hobbies.
Sabiha, dressed in white now, pays him a visit. He has leverage on her. It's Baran's missing dossier.**** She'll do what he says or Baran will get his file back and learn about her secret life in Germany.*****
I want to know more about her secret life in Germany.
Gul tries to stop Dilan from going but in the end just asks her to be careful. Baran drives up and gets out of the truck as she is walking out. Cevdet arrives at the mansion and sees them standing together.
Yelling at the tv:
*Cevahir's also got a FrownyBaran crease between his brows. Businessmen...gangsters... whaddya gonna do?

** I wonder what Azade's husband was like. We see a direct line of valor from Kudret to Baran, and skeeviness from Hasan to Firat. Although Firat is arguably trying to shake that off. Is Kudret like his dad, and that's where he gets it from? And Hasan took after his mom?
***So I used to interpret this more literally when it came up before. But now it seems more like a literal translation of something more akin to 'I want you nearby'.
****How'd he get that thing anyway? Was it during coffee in the gazebo? No sight lines to the study's outside door and his guy could slip in and out?
*****OK, I know this is a lot. But with her past in Germany, and Zumrut being there too, with Ali... there's going to be a time when these two things coincide, I just know it.
1 Hagia Sofaraway chanted.
Culturisms:
The 'you're right' argument strategy persists. Did they always do this and I missed it? Or is it happening more now? There's certainly more arguments than before.

Teaser 186:
Baran walks into their room smiling, looking at her dress choices for an event. And she has a clothing suggestion for him too. The event is going to see her family. They talk about babies, being a good mum and dad (oooooh! I sense groundwork!) and Baran remembers how he and Kerem planned to be dads at the same time.
Well now I'm sad again.
