Kan Cicekleri 211 It's All About The Mom

 Quick synopsis: A date night. Some stolen moments. Sabiha faints.

Dilan is sure now that Sabiha is her biological mother. Still doesn't make what she put the lovebirds through any less real. In fact, it makes things worse. Dilan is Dilan of course, so she tries to put herself in Sabiha's shoes, to understand. She and Gul rehash things in an effort to make sense of it all. And beyond that, there's forgiving for herself and that's one thing, but for what happened to Baran, not so much.

Cevriye's cousin Yasmin is a bit of a pill. 

Dilan wants to tell Baran the news, but says it's "hella hard". That made me laugh. 

Kader made Firat take the necklace back. Outing their secret now is not a good idea. Or maybe if she knew he had the right  to...As in he and Gul are practically family...

Poor Firat. Can't catch a break or a cuddle.

Baran is being supportive and not pushy. They will have a night out, he says. 

Havin is worried about Sabiha and tells Dilan so. 

Cevdet is pretty good natured about Yasmin descending on them.

The Karaboys talk in idioms. Then they have the kind of happy family jovial joking with Dilan they've all dreamed about: Dad up and around, a newly married couple, a younger brother entering the family's business.*

The new Demir restaurant looks a lot like the old one.

Harun and Yasmin complain about each other to Cevriye and Cevdet respectively.

The lovers are cheeky and flirty. There's lots of calling each other by their full names. They ride a bike through town, Dilan sitting in front while Baran does the work. It's very date-night in here. He even replies, "thank you" when Dilan says, "I love you", like she did when he first said it. Goof.

Did Sabiha get a perm?

Cevahir drops by. He isn't very moved by her wavy hair. Oh Wait! He was in jail! This is not good. He wants to know who ratted him out. He makes threats, fishing for info, hoping she'll crack. 

His hair is very stand-up-ish today. Judging by the hair, everyone is riled up.

Sbiha doesn't crack. She is worried that Baran knows her mom secret though.

Dilan is wrestling with how to tell him exactly that. Ahmet finds her sitting under a tree. He's very Zen today: Look to Nature; remind yourself where you get your strength. Those who love you won't want to see you suffer.

His hair is pretty normal.

Azade is glad Hasan gets a reprieve and can stay. She and Baran differ on what it means to be a Karabey though. (Duh.) Hasan will mess up again and his grace period extends only until then.

As if on cue...

He complains to Kader and sends her back to do a bunch of work for his snacking pleasure.

Kudret is right there though with a message of "you're not off the hook'. And a "shut your pie hole". I know I've said it before, but that man's scowl is fierce.

Sabiha and Dilan have a private chat. She confirms that Baran doesn't know yet.

But he's coming through the garden and sees them. 

Sabiha doesn't mention her fear of Cevahir finding out Dilan is her daughter. But all the stress and not eating catches up with her. She faints dead away.

Dilan looks around for help and sees Baran.

Yelling at the tv:

* I suspect this banter is the kind of life Baran always dreamed about when he pictured getting married. And Dilan has all this new family, all these new men in her life, a part of a larger, stable family. It must be what they both would wish for, when they were able to think of themselves and their fondest dreams. That's what this little bit of silliness with the four of them feels like anyway.

Culturisms:

There's this crazy fountain outside near the gazebo. Hasan washes up in it. Just like a quick face splash, but...is that what it's for? Or is that just to show again how uncouth Hasan is?

Kan Cicekleri 210 Dilan Knows

Quick synopsis: Baran's edict. Sabiha spills. A couple of revelations.

Dilan sees Sabiha's half of the medallion. She remembers what Seyit told her. Shows Sabiha the 1/2 that she wears. Baran is done with his phone call and is now very concerned with what is happening. They both put their halves away right quick. Neither seems inclined to divulge the news just yet. All he knows is that Sabiha upset Dilan. Again. And he's not having it.

Also, he's in blue. It looks good. Bit like a sailor.

He knows something is wrong but Dilan won't say what. He has observed that whenever she and Sabiha are together, she comes away unbalanced, a little off kilter. What upsets her, upsets him. Ever the bulldog, is our Baran.

Azade interrupts Kader from talking to Gul about the very expensive necklace.

Dilan is reeling. She can't quite believe this woman has her mom's necklace. She pulls out the photo. The necklaces are the same. The woman could be Sabiha. She's still disbelieving.

Kudret wants the anomosity between Baran and Firat resolved. In typical Baba-Kudret fashion, he talks them up, calling them brave, able to do what the past couldn't, be the hope for the family's future. And of course, both of them are changed by the women tehy love. Who are friends already. Who led the way for them. 

Talk it out, Karaboys, he insists. 

Firat just wants to feel like a real Kara-boy. Baran says he can't be one, and then go behind their backs.. That's the opposite of being a Karabey.

(Better not tell them about the wedding, eh?)

They are only stronger together. His play for power could have lost them all their power.

Sabiha is bummed. Dilan knows and she saw only disappointment in her face. Maybe it would be better to say that Esra gave it to her.

Cevahir was apprehended for smuggling! However, it may serve only to make him more dangerous than to keep him locked up. Implication? Keeping Dilan's secret has become more complicated.

Baran has called a fmaily meeting. Hasan is pouting. Everyone overlooks it. Baran's announcement is that he sent Seyit and Hanife away to protect them. Azade protests. And it's kind of a big deal that the head of the family was interrupted. Also, the Demir's who stayed--they're off limits too. Hasan committed the betrayal; Baran is the conscience of the family. Hasan stays, but:

He never speaks to the Demirs

He leaves Dilan the hell alone

His profits from the family company go to the orphanage from now on.

Even Firat, is like, sorry dude, nothing I can do. Hasan only becomes more resolved in his villainy.

Dilan is convinced that Sabiha is playing a trick with the medallion. She overhears Cihan and Baran discussing Sabiha's dubious past and change in names. She wants to tell them her suspicion but that old haunting feeling that he'll somehow get hurt again stops her. 

Instead she pays a visit to Sabhia while Baran is at the office. Her intention is thwart any plan Sabiha has, but then she sees the box of similar mementos, the matching pieces to her own.

I don't believe it; Sabiha omes clean! She was going to deny it, save Dilan's unblemished idea of her mom, but she spills it all.

Suddenly faced with the possibility that this isn't a ploy, that Sabiha is really her mom, all the awful things she did to her make no sense.

Of course, she didn't know it at the time. And she lamented kind of a lot when she realized. Enough that I started skipping those parts. (Sorry Sabiha.)

But apparently that apprehension was warranted. Cause Dilan is not having it. Sabiha tried to kill her. Baran too! She still considers her mom dead.

I feel for them both. It's an O. Henry twist for sure.

Gul and Firat are able to steal more moments together. Firat continues to be darn cute in the face of her fears. #loveytoad.

Baran is wondering how many more times she's going to do this to herself, and he'll find her devasatated outside Sabiha's house. 

That's a fair quesiton.
Also fair, her pointing out that he's yelling at her. Again.

He's just trying to protect her! is his excuse.

B, lemme introduce you to someone named Tamlin. Take a different approach, bruh.

Oh geez. Then he goes and brings up the months she was gone. The terrible time after. So he's not entirely misguided with his crankiness.

She relents. She'll share, but she she needs time. Don't be mad.

A milstone for sure.

Turgut (who shot Baran) is being watched; his capture is imminent.

Cihan breaks the news to them that Cevahir is in custody for smuggling. It's high profile, all over the news. And they just signed the deal with him.

(Oooh, was this Cevahir's plan all along? He's smug enough to plan it, get out of it eventually, but not before bringing trouble down on the Karabey name.)

Dilan confides in Gul, which I love, but before Baran, which could be weird. I mean, they tight now, right? She just needed time, right?

Well, there is the whole she-wanted-Baran-dead part, and Gul knew Sabiha was forcing her to break his heart. So I guess it makes sense that would test the waters with Gul first.

Oh! But who should walk up just then? Mommy Dearest.

If Baran sees her, he is going to lose it. Added to that, she is talking to Sabiha again, and before confiding in him.

They spent a looong time on Cevriye's cousin finding the house (she's coming for a visit) but now it makes sense: Harun, of all people, saves her from getting run over. It's very heroic.

Baran does see them. 

Aaaaand,,,just watches from a distance. He finally approaches, frowny but slow, coming up next to Dilan, instead of inserting himself between them. 

Why is she here? She's worried about Dilan.

She shouldn't be. She has no claim on their time, is not family. And there it is. This woman has no right to worry.

Who gets to worry about you is a big deal.

Kader has Gul's necklace. And she's mad. It's really expensive. Where'd she get it? 

Firat comes in. "I gave it to her," with echoes.

Sabiha leaves and Cihan reveals some surprising news: Sabiha--the one they have been researching--died. The Sabiha who just left is using a dead woman's identity. Baran gets echoes too when he asks, "Who is this Sabiha?"

Culturisms: I love that there's still just random dogs everywhere.

 Episode 209 The Never-ending War

Quick synopsis: Hasan is barely shot. The mother of all confessions. The medallion is revealed. 

Seyit shoots but even though it is Baran who is right in front of him, it's Hasan who drops. Baran snatches Seyit's gun away and immediately checks on Dilan. She is unscathed. People flock around Hasan but Kudret tells him to cut it out and sit up. He's fine. Hasan immediately starts howling and Kudret offers a hankie for his scrape. He's basically got a boo-boo.

Firat is upset though. He picks up his gun and runs over to Seyit, pointing it at him. Dilan runs to her dad. Kudret yells at Firat to stop and Baran is worried for Dilan. It's Gul running up and reminding him who he wanted to be that diffuses the situation. Kudret pulls Seyit away but as they go, Seyit is repeating how Hasan is a murderer. Baran watches them go.

The fathers argue but in the end, it was Kudret's family who died, and that decides it. If he can be silent, waiting for the right moment to out Hasan, then so can Seyit.

Firat calls Sabiha; Hasan has been taken to her hospital. They need her staff to not report the wound as a gunshot. He wants to protect Dilan and her dad, and keep it in the family. Sabhia agrees.

Dilan is freaking out. No matter what they do this vendetta is its own evil thing and the darkness follows them. She thinks it will never end.

Baran has longer experience with it. And he's more upset that Seyit showed up out of the blue with a gun. What prompted that? What if she had been hurt?

Cevdet is catching up on events. He didn't even know Seyit was ambushed in the first place. He's about to go off half-cocked too. It's Cevriye who stops him. She lost a life too. She bled. If she doesn't pick up the gun, what right does he have too? It's a nice symmetry to Kudret's earlier statement.

Once again, Who Run the World? Girls. We run this motha'.

Hasan doesn't even spend a night in the hospital for observation.  He's still a big baby and complaining though. Particularly about having to travel to Mardin.

Cihan reigns him in. 

Azade-doom starts in again with Dilan. Baran steps in. She calls him BaranBoss. It has the effect of calling him Boss Baby I think.

Dilan calls Sabiha; she needs a favor.

Firat is grateful to Gul. She has a valid counterpoint: That's nice, but I can't live my life wondering who you'll kill or will kill you if I'm not there. You have to remember these things on your own, bud. Time to grow up, kiddo. He has to promise. She can't bear it if something happens to him.

Dilan's favor is getting her parents the hell out of Dodge. The Demirs have a tearful good-bye but I'm not really that into it.

Baran tells her he's got it handled...he's sending her parents abroad. 

Oh. Ummmm...

Baran is cursing his guy out for losing them when Dilan pipes up. They're at Sabiha's house.*

Sorry...they're...where?

Ohhhh, something I hadn't thought about until Hanife walks in is how the mothers are coming face-to-face.

It's showtime, folks.

Hanife starts in with woe-is-me and Sabiha claws her own hand to keep quiet in the face of it.

Our lovers are ignoring each other while in the same bed. Baran is brooding and flexing his fingers. But by morning they are on the same page again and will go say goodbye to her parents before they go to Germany.

Oh my god. Hanife is blubbering again. But now she's blubbering in front of Sabiha and the blubbering is more like complaining about Dilan. There's a nice little face off with Sabiha saying she'd do anything for Dilan but somehow Hanife takes from this a reminder to complain about Dilan some more. Oof.

Seyit tries to shut her up, but she appeals--appeals!--to Sabiha. He's a man; he doesn't get it. But you do, you're a mother. You understand me.

Ahhhh, and there it is folks, the fireworks begin. And pow! Just when I think it's all Sabiha can do to stop herself from punching her--bam! She hauls off and slaps her. Followed by a confirmation that she is Dilan's mom.

She actually tells her she is Ezra Yilmaz.

And what does Hanife do? Start in on how Sabiha, not Dilan, is the source of their trouble. No shame, this woman. She regrets nothing.

In the end, Sabiha just threatens her to keep quiet.

Hasan is still bound for Mardin. He can take a couple days to heal, then it's adios to the rat.

Azade pleads his case. Just when she got one son back from a coma, Baran is sending the other away. And if he does...she'll never forgive all of them: Baran, Cihan, Kudret. So she's abused her power as a mom and made Baran responsible for all three of them.

But Kudret drops the high bower in this game: Mom, did you know what Hasan was going to do?

She stops in her tracks.

Not only will her answer lose her the high ground, but also put her in a position to be in Baran's debt. And if the punishment for what Hasan did was banishment, then she would share in that fate. Basically, he's turned the tables on her in exactly the same way. Don't make us banish you.

In one fell swoop he's given Baran the upper hand to the extent that she now owes him. 

If they let her stay, that's an equalizer to her argument. 

And if he forgives her role in the events, then she is indebted to him.

Bubba got game.

Not that it would matter much if she was indebted. She'd never pay up if it meant accepting Dilan or Gul. 

All of this plays out only in the abstract because she doesn't answer. But Baran's mouth ticks and we all know they know.

Cevahir is making bigger villain plans. Havin reports something to the authorities. Anonymously, because she then smashes her phone.

Kudret is at Baran's desk in the study when Kader asks him to appraise Gul's necklace. It's very expensive, contrary to the explanation Gul gave.

Baran's guys are taking the Demirs from Sabiha's to Germany. Dilan and a stoney-faced Baran say their goodbyes. Hanife apologizes and not even in a backhanded way. Baran gets a call. It's Kudret; Cihan has the Sabiha file. They are raiding Turgut's place. When Sabiha comforts Dilan, a strand of Dilan's hair gets caught on Sabiha's 1/2 of the medallion, pulling it out when they break apart. She picks it up and stares at it in disbelief. Baran turns around but can't quite see what's going on. 

Yelling at the tv:
*Now--and I know I am overthinking this--but with the way Cevahir likes to just show up, is this really the best place for her to move them to? Presumably, Sabiha could get them anywhere Baran could if this is indeed a stopgap measure, but staying with her seems like an iffy choice.

 Episode 209 Dilan Faces The Music

Quick synopsis: Hasan has really done it (this time). Cevriye's loss. Havin's gain.

There has been a shootout at the Demir's. Baran is done with this nonsense, how it messes with their lives. Hasan is drinking coffee, relaxing after a job well done.

We're still not sure how everything ended. But here comes Baran in a slow walk around the corner. And he's got Hasan in his sights. Pretty soon the whole family is there, watching Baran hold his uncle by fistfuls of his shirt. Hasan feigns innocence. 

Really, my dude? We saw you there.

Kudret asks Dilan what happened.

Firat starts to intervene; Kudret backs him off.

Baran is fired UP y'all.

Azade-doom steps between the 2 men. 

Dilan speaks up. There's been bloodshed. Cevriye lost one of the babies in the terror of the shootout. We've missed the time from the initial gunshots through a hospital visit. Maybe they'll flashback like they sometimes do.

Kudret is shaking with rage.

Azade sticks to her guns (yeah, I know). The family was fooled. That's why Hasan did what he did. 

Hasan has big, round, puppy dog eyes. It's so gross.

Dilan brings it to a point: Did that baby's death abate your honor? It's a damning phrase.

And to boot, Dilan does what she always does: speak to similarities between people in an effort to create empathy and understanding. Azade is a mother too. She caused this for another mother. 

Everyone is moved. Kudret is fit to be tied. Dilan starts to falter and Baran's attention snaps back to her. He will meet out punishment later.

Azade gives Hasan a look like, I can't save you this time.

Kudret hauls off and smacks him! Like, a really big whack! It's lightning fast. And he's about to do it again when Azade begs him to stop. Hasan slinks away and as he passes each person, they all turn their faces away, one by one: Kudret, Azade, Cihan, Firat.*

Baran pulls Dilan  into a hug when he goes upstairs. Poor Cevriye. This isn't the first time, and it doesn't really matter who's at fault. It just sucks for her, over and over again. She's the real victim and the rest is just crap. They lost only 1 baby (of the twins) but it doesn't really matter. They owe this woman, all of them.

Baran is worried for Dilan and her family. He will make the culprits pay. Sabiha tries to call her but Dilan brushes her off. She'll go to the mansion. She directs Havin to find out everything about Cevahir's shipment.

Now Azade slaps Hasan. Hard. To be clear, she's pissed it wasn't Seyit and was a baby instead. The killing was never the problem. Baran was furious, she tells him. Hasan had better be careful.

The Karabey boys all agree: Hasan was in the wrong and deserves whatever is coming to him. 

Even Firat is freaking out about his dad. Gul says it best: the whole freaking lot of you are unbelievable. It's a bit of a wakeup call for Firat. He's followed in his father's footsteps so many times. He and Gul share a very sweet moment in re-pledging to do right by each other.

Dilan's family blames her...for letting the secret out that she was adopted and prompting the attack.** But she wants to see them anyway. Even if they yell and tell her to get lost again. They set out to leave but meet Sabiha in the driveway. Baran's not happy about it, but he'll wait in the car. Dilan relays the who and what of the situation. 

Azade gets a visit from Ahmet. They both stand with their canes. Of course he proverbs the hell out of the circumstance, specifically mentioning a time when--even if it's your due, forgoing it and offering forgiveness is preferable. Even mature. Forgiving at the height of your power is the highest power move you can make.

Bam! Ahmet needs no stick to bang, y'all.

Azade-doom is a thoughtful cobra as he melts away, back to where he appeared from.

Dilan will face Cevriye.

A word: all of this shooting and vendetta and dudes plotting, and we get to the poignant moment and it's two women. Like I said, they all owe Cevriye, but it's Dilan who steps forward to pay the piper.

Who run the world? 

For my part, Hanife can stuff it. She is more to blame than anyone. Cevriye ushers Dilan in. Baran sits with Seyit. Seyit blames Hasan, not Baran. He calls Hasan a murderer. That gets Baran's attention. Seyit brushes it off. Baran makes it clear; Hasan is his to deal with. It's a Karabey issue now.

Cevriye is the embodiment of the lesson: she won't seek revenge for her dead child at the expense of the one that still lives. They have put their entire dilemma in her; she is the physical manifestation of a vendetta. She contains multitudes. She's like the fool in a Shakespeare play who speaks truth at crucial moments but has no power to wield.

Havin finds the shipment manifest but Cevahir and his goon are on the way back. A phone call as they open the door is her saving grace. She escapes undetected.

The skinny on Cevahir is that he and his dad smuggled antiques. Even been arrested a couple of times but someone else always took the fall. (Seems to be a habit of his, having others take the blame.)  But the photos Havin took of the manifests...now they have proof. Sabiha isn't the least bit surprised.

Neither are we.

Kader finds a copy of Gul's marriage license photo in one of Firat's drawers. The earrings Gul is wearing in the photo give her away. The photo is recent. Kader wants to know why she had it taken.

The Karabeys are all lounging in the living room when the couple gets back from the Demirs. Hasan is ordered to move out. Baran banishes him to Mardin. Immediately.

Bye bye, rat.

I bet Cevahir takes him in.

No one speaks on his behalf as he says goodbye. They all go inside. No one sees Seyit with the gun. Until they all file back out. Dilan shouts at him. Baran yells to stop. Firat rushes forward and pulls his gun on Seyit. Kuret yells at Firat to stop. Dilan yells for the bloodshed to stop. Baran steps in front of Firat. Firat lowers his gun. Baran then steps directly in front of Seyit's gun. Kudret implores Seyit...they talked about this. Drop the weapon.

Baran edges closer.

Seyit fires.

Culturisms:

* Is the turning away of your face a typical, known insult in the Middle East? Or just in dizi?

The style of Sabiha's house is better than the Karabey's. Less ostentatious. Less gold. Is that betraying a prejudice for English style rather than the sultanesque aesthetic the Karabeys might be trying to evoke? Or, just a cultural difference in style in general?

Yelling at the tv:
**The blame they put on her is bollocks, of course. They gave her up, instead of one of their own kids. In so much as the vendetta makes sense at all, they've brought the wrath on themselves with that choice.

They have put their entire dilemma in her; she is the physical manifestation of a vendetta. She contains multitudes. She's like the fool in a Shakespeare play who speaks truth at crucial moments but has no power to wield.

Havin finds the shipment manifest but Cevahir and his goon are on the way back. A phone call as they open the door is her saving grace. She escapes undetected.

The skinny on Cevahir is that he and his dad smuggled antiques. Even been arrested a couple of times but someone else always took the fall. (Seems to be a habit of his, having others take the blame.)  But the photos Havin took of the manifests...now they have proof. Sabiha isn't the least bit surprised.

Neither are we.

Kader finds a copy of Gul's marriage license photo in one of Firat's drawers. The earrings Gul is wearing in the photo give her away.The photo is recent. Kader wants to know why she had it taken.

The Karabeys are all lounging in the living room when the couple gets back from the Demirs. Hasan is ordered to move out. Baran banishes him to Mardin. Immediately.

Bye bye, rat.

I bet Cevahir takes him in.

No one speaks on his behalf as he says goodbye. They all go inside. No one sees Seyit with the gun. Until they all file back out. Dilan shouts at him. Baran yells to stop. Firat rushes forward and pulls his gun on Seyit. Kuret yells at Firat to stop. Dilan yells for the bloodshed to stop. Baran steps in front of Firat. Firat lowers his gun. Baran then steps directly in front of Seyit's gun. Kudret implores Seyit...they talked about this. Drop the weapon.

Baran edges closer.

Seyit fires.

Culturisms:

* Is the turning away of your face a typical, known insult in the Middle East? Or just in dizi?

The style of Sabiha's house is better than the Karabey's. Less ostentatious. Less gold. Is that betraying a prejudice for English style rather than the sultanesque aesthetic the Karabeys might be trying to evoke? Or, just a cultural difference in style in general?

Yelling at the tv:
**The blame they put on her is bollocks, of course. They gave her up, instead of one of their own kids. In so much as the vendetta makes sense at all, they've brought the wrath on themselves with that choice.

 Episode 207 Shootout At The Demirs

Quick synopsis: Cevahir the iceman. Sabiha makes an offer. The rat starts a shootout.

Dilan is done with the thug life. All this worrying about the vendetta, her brother, if her family will be killed now that the adoption secret is out. They talk about Baran's latest design instead. He was inspired by how he feels when he looks into Dilan's eyes. 

Is it cheesy or heady stuff? I'm not sure.

Dilan, Kader and Gul have a fun minute and group hug in the kitchen. Unitil Azade-doom comes in and breaks it up. She always brings the baggage.

Lady, bas.

Sabiha is trying to figure out how to be in Dilan's life without being in her life; how to skirt Cevahir's notice of her interest in Dilan. Maybe a business reason. She seems excited by the possibility 

Dilan has fallen asleep in a chair, reading. Baran takes the book, then picks her up and carries her to bed. I guess we can forgive him for not using a bookmark. They banter and he gives her a flirty, mock-chiding teeth-suck. It still makes me giggle.

Their morning banter gets a little saucier, bolder. They leave the room holding hands.

What. the. F. 

Cevahir has his face in a bowl of ice water.

While playing chess.

Ice. Water.

I was sort of joking earlier, but now I'm really not: #weirdhobbies.

And they don't even explain it. Like with some evil genius, whacked out, made up reason that it makes him strong on his enemies or something. There's just electric guitar riff, glove flexing and lots of pawn talk. Then fondling some ice.

Breakfast do-over. Hasan gets a call. He is incapable of nonchalance. 

Everyone has to eat and run, on to their busy day. Cihan makes a joke that makes everyone smile, but the translation is weird and I'm not sure what just happened.

It's no face in an ice bucket tho.

Firat and Gil and stepping out. They're so cute. 

Dilan and Kudret talk on the patios. She is worried he'll be upset with her now that he knows the truth. She needn't have worried. He'd never believed she wanted to leave Baran for revenge. He knows how she feels better than anyone. He'd heard her pour her heart out all that time he was paralyzed. He has a feeling there's more to tell, and he's willing to listen. If she wants.

She does not confide in him. He responds with a good point: he also knows better than anyone what it means to stay silent to protect your family. He trusts her. And that's huge. Her reasons--whatever they may be--have mage club benediction.

I'm so glad he woke up.

Sabiha finds out Cevahir is smuggling artifacts.

Hey! It's Ahmet! Long time, no see. He and Dilan talk family protection. He reminds her to look back through all she's been through to give her hope going forward. What light can she shed on this new darkness? See what light got her through the past.

He's lovely. As always.

Sabiha comes with Dilan's favorite lemon cookies. She makes her let's-work-together pitch. Azade-doom finds them talking and starts in with the insults directed at Dilan. Sabiha chastises her. (That's fun to watch.)

Out comes Baran. He sends his grandma inside. Sabiha chastises him too: with what she just witnessed from Azade, he would do better to protect his wife. 

Oh damn. Here we go...

Who is she to have a say in family matters? (Laying it on a little thick here, writers. But also, I had the same thought.)

She can't answer except with the protection she could offer DIlan in a new job.*

What job?!? he wants to know.

Dilan entreats him not to argue right now, and walks away. Something only a true Karabey can do. No arm-grabbing for her.

Firat mentions a future with a baby. I thought he meant Kader when he said, 'the three of us.' 

Hasan and his toadies are waiting for Seyit when he leaves the house. He draws a gun. Seyit draws his. Baran's guys shoot too.

Cevriye has baby cramps that could be premature labor brought on by the commotion.

Dilan brings Baran to task. He basically walks in and says, 'spit it out'. He doesn't ask. He doesn't wait. He's bossy and not very gracious. He'll probably yell. He glances at the small table where she set up a spread to butter him up. But he doesn't even let her present the idea. Just says he hopes she said 'no' because he doesn't want her working with Sabiha. 

But she wants to have something for herself.

Great! he replies. Come work with us. We also need smart people like you. 

(Well damn. That was slightly disarming.)

But it's also not her field. She wants to make her own choice.

Oh bugger; here's the arm grab, a double-fister spin. Ok, fine, he'll create a business in her field. Just for her.

Uh B, lovely thought but still man-handling and overbearing.

He gets a dainty, but stubborn tsk from Dilan. Her motives are altruistic too--she doesn't want to buy her way in with privilege. She wants to succeed on her own merit, as part of a team. To fit into the scientific world she studied in.

But he's still afraid this is part of some plot against them.** Baran calls Sabiha "spooky", hanging around for no reason. No reason that they know of...yet. 

So...true.

Dilan, having shared confidences with her about her mom, feels differently. And maybe there's a genuine mom vibe there too. He's trying oh so hard not to be the tyrant. There's facts they don't know about her. He's laying the blame entirely on Sabiha: she won't let you be; she's always around you. (I mean, that is her plan.) Maybe she's actively trying to deceive you. Even if you aren't naive, who can counter that kind of conning? He's actively investigating her. Just steer clear until that's done.

He keeps himself from squeezing her arms as is his habit. Instead it's a sliding caress, if still a means to keep her from walking away.

He finally does resort to an edict though: Don't go near her. Case closed.

Because we know how well that works.

Baran gets a call. Gunfire at the Demirs.*** He slowly turns to look at Dilan.

Yelling at the tv:
* I can't believe she turned it around, but I have to say: I'm liking Sabiha. The steel she shows in not backing down from Cevahir, doing her own plotting against him, those snake eyes turned on protecting her daughter. Even keeping in step with Baran. She's turning into a real force for justice.

**I mean, he's not wrong about the plot part. The man can sniff out disingenuousness like nobody else. It's just that this time the deception is well meant. The basic argument is a difference in opinion over trust / distrust of Sabiha.

***The dude who delivers the news of the gunfight to Baran is absolutely uninterested and monotone. Inexperience or dearth of it?

Baran has upgraded to an ipad for work.

 Episode 206 Everyone Knows

Quick synopsis: The family finds out. Gul is not happy. Buy the shares already.

Cihan wants to take a photo of them all together at breakfast. Hasan uses it as an opportunity to out Dilan as adopted, in his not-subtle yet off-handed way, thereby lighting a powder keg.

Azade-doom goes boom.

Cihan puts his head in his hand like 'oh boy, here we go'. Kudret is pissed and scowling. Baran has hold of Dilan's hand and looks like he's about to throw Hasan out the house.

Hasan elaborates.  The Demirs tricked the great Karabey family. vy vy vy

Azade asks (yells) if this is true, that they took some rando girl into their home.

Oh, but there's more.

Hasan knows just whose daughter she actually is: Hikmet's. 

Sabiha picks that moment to phone Dilan. She's not picking up. (Obvi.) Sabiha decides she will go to the mansion.

No, she won't. Cevahir chose that moment to pay her a visit. 

Hasan keeps going: Hikmet covered up Seyit's crime. That's whose daughter they have.

Kudret is the first to break. He slams his fists on the table and tells Hasan to Shut. Up.

Dilan would pull her hand away but Baran holds it tight.

Azade-doom is going to kill them, the people who tricked them. The way she is yelling, I bet she wishes she had her cane.

Baran lays down the law: No, and no. To any of it.

Ope! She does have her cane. Bang. Bang. And she drops the wedding day bomb:

Didn't Dilan run away on her wedding day to get her revenge and play us all?

(What a cluster f---.)

Kudret, Firat...everyone but Cihan and Baran look surprised.

Baran finally pulls his hand from hers to to jump up and bang on the table. Now everyone is on their feet.

Whew boy.

Cevahir makes himself at home at Sabiha's house. He did not hear any of Sabiha's conversation with Havin about Dilan. He does want to know if his edict was followed. Did she buy Firat's shares yet? She promises to before he gets murderous.

Baran grabs Dilan's hand again almost immediately. And pulls her behind him, shielding her. More yelling. Dilan finally goes upstairs. Kudret gives a nod to Baran. Go. He'll handle things down here.  Firat and Gul split too. Firat also sees it as trickery. Gul brings perspective. She has only sympathy.

Dilan gets big hugs and comfort from Baran.

The problem is that the vendetta is what drives Azade's life. And Dilan has slowly been chipping that away. First with the marriage, then remembering Ayten less morbidly, Kudret getting better...all these things--though she may be happy about some of them--they incrementally undo her identity. Without that vengeful fire in her belly, what does she have?

Firat is outside when Sabiha walks up. Wearing a blue dress and with her hair down. She tries to convince Firat he can pay his part of their partnership, the one that is much more beneficial to him than her, with his shares. 

I wondered how she was going to broach the sale.

Nope. No deal. 

Dilan walks out and Sabiha calls to her but she doesn't hear. Does she have a problem? she asks Firat.

Oh lady...

Just family stuff, Firat answers.

Baran has come back down. And he has questions:

1. Why did you do that?

2. You don't share stuff like that at the breakfast table, don't you know that? Aren't you supposed to be an elder? (That one cuts.)

3. What's your purpose?

4. Are you acting alone?

5. Why didn't you talk to me? I stayed quiet for a reason. Did you think of that?

He is vibrating with fury.

Hasan gets a call from Cevahir. They need to meet.

Kader checks in on Dilan. She's the mom again. 

Gul confides to Firat that she doesn't like Sabiha. He wants to know, is there something Gul knows that he doesn't? It means something to him, his wife's opinion. He won't forget it.

The Karabey boys are worried about the trouble Hasan and Azade could stir up. Cihan is in charge of sending some guys to watch over the Demirs.

Cevahir is really antsy for Firat's shares. He is supposed to buy them off Sabiha after she gets them from Firat. (Good lord, people.) He doesn't have much time. (That's a curious new timetable.) But Sabiha, rather than being intimidated, takes this as a sign that she needs to be rid of Cevahir sooner than she'd planned. He must have a secret they can exploit. Havin will find out.

She has a good point. Now I want to know too. What is with that guy?

Kudret finally gets the full truth about Dilan being kidnapped and saying she left instead, all to protect Baran. He understands now why Baran is distrustful of Sabiha. 

Cihan is also in charge of Kerem's computer and getting the Sabiha dossier. He's really coming up.

When the guys are finished, Baran comforts Dilan some more.*

Hasan and Cevahir have a meeting too. They are moving ahead with a shipment, whether or not it meets Baran's high ethical standards for doing business.

Havin has been listening 2 tables away. That's what Cevahir gets for working en plein air. Go get 'em, weird girl.

Seyit and Kudret have a meeting. They discuss the bodyguards and Dilan; is she ok? Kudret calls him off with a weirdly snarky, "No one will touch her while Baran is alive."

(I have questions. Like, why specifically mention 'Baran' and 'alive' in the same sentence?)

Seyit feels like the longer they keep Hasan's secret, the more his evil grows. He wants to tell. Kudret says no. If he does, Kudret will deny it.**

Hasan is back in time to witness them talking. So does Azade-doom. He pushes the idea of taking out Seyit for tricking them. His gamble on saving face as a motive backfires though. Azade forbids him from making their humiliation known to the wider world. She is especially hissy and cobra-like. For realz. It's practically Parsel-tongue. Outside this edict though, he has free reign. i.e. Seyit is going down.

Firat and Gul have a secret meeting. He is waxing poetic on what they'll be able to do once everyone knows they are married. It's very cute.

Kader overhears everything.

Hasan fills Azade in on his plan. No one will trace the hit back to them...yadda yadda. They are on the patio discussing their nefarism. 

(Why are these people always out in the most obvious spaces?)

Azade-doom takes a Hammurabli approach: since we were surprised by her adoption, this will be our surprise for her! Their evil banter is overlay for the couple gazing lovingly, unshakably, at each other.

Yelling at the tv:

*There's a new, covered swing on the Karabey patio. Dilan uses it when remembering the fiasco that was breakfast.

**This is huge for him. Imagine Kudret and Ayten had as great a love as Baran and Dilan. By all accounts, accurate. And instead of telling the world what a rat his brother is, he will deny the truth in favor of coming full circle. They need all the facts, these men, and though it has to be killing him, Kudret won't sacrifice a just conclusion.

They must have dyed Baran’s hair again. It's matte dark.

 Episode 205 Sabiha's Protection Racket

Quick synopsis: Mourning a mother. Firat almost spills the beans. Hasan actually does.

Baran is ticked Dilan took off again to Sabiha's and I can't even feel bad about it. Damn straight bro. 

Sabiha doesn't recant her lie that Dilan's mom is dead. I still say she should enlist Baran. I'm going to channel Kerem for a minute: Talk to him!

Dilan and Sabiha have a heartbreaking conversation that I am just not up for. Am I hardened? Maybe. Like, just spit it out already. Also, I can't take another heartbreak episode. Bah.

Oh Gul, no....don't do it. Don't fall for Hasan's crap again. Firat doesn't get the chance to explain what she thinks she just overheard because Kader walks in and he has to bounce or risk her finding out about them. 

Sabiha tells Dilan about her mom though. It's heartbreaking (did I mention?) but also comforting. She proposes they become surrogate mother and daughter to each other. This seems like a nice compromise but it won't help the original fear that started the lie. If Cevahir finds out how beloved this surrogate daughter is, won't that be exactly the same situation?

Dilan is amenable to the idea. Sabiha tells her more about her mom. Dilan wants to know, got any photos of her? 

Now that's a million dollar question...

Baran shows up. It's clear looking at the two women that something has happened. And he's comletely disarmed when Dilan just walks up to him and lays her head on his shoulder in a hug, needing comfort. She tells him her mother is dead.

Gul finds an apology bouquet from Firat in the living room. He is peaking from around the corner as she discovers it. 
I love it when he's basically a big kid. 

Gul keeps a hard line though; he visitied his ex-fiancee without telling her. He was wrong. She leaves and Cihan continues the argument with him. 

You know what would take the wind right of this whole fiasco?  If Firat gave the shares to Baran. Or even Gul. He's got a good heart. That isn't the question. It's the not telling them that's the problem. 

But maybe Derya wouldn't have sold them--or Cevahir wouldn't have told her to--if they'd known he was an agent of Baran's. 

Baran is pretty upset with Sabiha. If she knew the truth this whole time, why hide it from them? 

What I want to know is, how is she going to come back from this lie? Like, 'no wait, not only is your mom not dead, but surprise! It's me!' That will be a hard pill to swallow.

Sabiha fakes having researched into Esra after they left. (Plausible.) Havin is still sure the time for the truth will come. 

Kudret greets them when they return home. He can tell it's not good news. Poor Dilan. All that time and energy and now there's no hope of a reunion at all. Baran is very supportive.

Gul is being pretty hard on Firat. He decides is she won't forgive him, he'll...he'll...tell her mom they got married! I dare you, she says. I don't believe anything you say anymore.

I bet he does tell her. I mean, is he a man of his word, or not?
Buckle up, Buttercup.

Father and son talk it out, about Dilan's situation. Baran feels awful.

Where's Ahmet?

He is also so sure Sabiha is still hiding something. That man's instincts are spot on. I suppose that's why he's the head of the family. As ever, he'll track don the facts of what Sabiha told them about Esra's life. Kerem said he backed up all his computer data so maybe Baran can start there. Kerem! That guy. *sigh* No one could beat Kerem for digging.*

Now that he's got a plan, Baran feels better.

Firat walks into the kitchen and starts talking to Kader. He and Gul have been texting. She shoots him a message to stop. She gives; he wins. He's forgiven.

Now they are both sad about losing their moms. He fed Dilan soup, but he hasn't eaten. They go to the kitchen. They will cook together. Hair up, sleeves rolled up. A reprise of their onion argument. Lots of inner monologue with looks.

Sabiha needs to keep Cevahir off any notion that Dilan is important to her. She'll buy Firat's shares. And if Cevahir ever even thinks about hurting her daughter...she'll kill him.

Dilan puts photos of her and her mom in their new family albumn. 

Gul truly forgives Firat, not just under duress.

Kudret expresses his condolences to Dilan. She is making breakfast for everyone. Azade-doom and Hasan the rat are not impressed. Baran and Kudret talk some more. Hasan eavesdrops. He discovers Dilan is adopted. And who her real parents are.

Oh boy.

He jumps through all the predictable, conclusional hoops.

Breakfast is an interesting affair. I keep forgetting Dilan cooked in her family's restaurant. Cihan wants to take a selfie with everyone. Hasan opens his big mouth: Fortuitous that Dilan is in this photo, non? Given how the Demir's tricked them and she's adopted?

Dilan drops the plate she's serving from. Baran catches it. He brings her around to her seat at the table, at his side. Hasan has his full attention. Baran takes Dilan's hand. 

Azade-doom is a hawk. Kudret's face is murderous. 

We end on a split screen of Dilan and Baran's faces, one cast down and one glaring.

Yelling at the tv:
Sabiha's got a lovely sun porch. She and Dilan have their conversation there.

There's a beautiful, deep purple bed set on their bed now.

These men have incredibly long eyelashes. Damn them. 

*This is the first time they're getting into Kerem's computer?!? For realz? Isn't that the first thing you do in a situation like his? I mean, how has Baran been doing all Kerem's work since his death? 

Culturisms:

There's a lot of scent and smelling that happens in this and recent episodes. Like smelling your mom's scent when she hugs you. I understand the comfort of that concept but I'm not sure if the show is playing it up for this particular plot point or if this is a larger, cultural meme.

Episode 204 Are You My Mother?

Quick synopsis: An almost reveal. An enemy still lurks. Cevahir the lunatic.

Esra Yilmaz worked at the Rustem Emiroglu hospital. Sabiha's hospital. They go to Sabiha's house. Did she know her?

(Sounds like. Amiright?)

They don't reveal why they want to know. Sabiha denies knowing the name. Havin looks as confused as we are. Baran thinks something's fishy. She was important to her husband. How could she not know her? He helped a lot of people. How could she know them all? Baran sees her hands shake. Is she hiding something?

She lies to his face. Nope, not hiding anything.

Firat, you poor toad. He's grimacing to himself, saying, "Stupid Firat!" He made Gul angry again.

Dilan is bummed again. Baran bolsters. He thinks they are close to a discovery. That her mom is close to them.

The double entendre is fairly loud.

Firat bought jewelry to apologize. He is congratulating himself. I'm not liking this plan. Gul doesn't like to be bought. The actual words he uses are up to snuff though. The jewelry is a necklace with a huge frickin' jewel pendant. She can't wear it, of course, not at her job. They'll ask.

She loves it though. He puts it on her anyway.

They don't kiss either.

Baran knows Sabiha is lying. He doesn't know why but he's got experience with these things. Dilan actually has the same feeling too, like there's something Sabiha isn't telling them. They form a plan to wait her out, see what she does. Dilan has second thoughts. Not much for waiting, our girl. Maybe Sabiha would talk if Baran wasn't around? She plans to beg her. She literally runs away to Sabiha's house.

Should she tell Baran she's going? I think we know the answer to this. Does she ever? Ditto.

In an effort to sway Sabiha, Dilan divulges that Esra Yilmaz was her mother.

Baran can't find her. Where did she go? I think he knows.

He remembers her saying they should talk to Sabiha again--which got a small teeth-suck at the time. Did she go there? He thinks he knows.

Sabiha gets the whole story about the adoption being kept a secret. They are basically crying at each other. It's a big ole bawl fest. Dilan's medallion comes out. Look what her mom left her! Sabiha clutches hers through her blouse. She is about to speak when Baran rounds the corner. He pulls Dilan behind him. If Sabiha really wants what's best for her, time to ante up: What does she know about Esra Yilmaz?

She is silent.

I don't get it. Why? She's scared Dilan will reject her (because torture) but after hearing Dilan's desperation, wanting the same things she wants, what gives?

I bet we get a soliloquy to explain it.

Azade-doom wants to know what is Friat's impetus for buying the shares. He's still feeling inadequate and not being taken seriously. He can't do things the way Baran would, but they also don't treat him as an equal. Not all the time.

Kudret wants to talk too. I bet his talk goes better.

Baran has walked far ahead after they've left Sabiha's house. He's miffed. Dilan's way didn't yield the results she wanted but it's kind of his fault for approaching like he did. Her instincts were sound; Sabiha would have spilled if he wasn't there.

Kudret's approach with Firat is the flawless, "you're right and" strategy. Plus, he has an excellent sense of how to do it. Things like, "you're a smart kid...didn't you see this would make Baran mad?" And he offers counsel; come to him next time and they can talk things over. He shows him a path to what he wants instead of condemning his actions, which only has the effect of making him want to defend them.

Hasan thinks Kudret is brainwashing him. Well...kind of. In the best way possible: washing Hasan out. 

Here's hoping.

This will be the first bedtime in a long time where the newlyweds are at odds with one another. How's that gonna go?

Pretty well, actually. He was mad. He yells a little. But then he takes her by the shoulders. He was so scared something could happen to her. There's still an enemy out there. Someone who shot him...who raided the wedding...

Oh. Yeah. That. Dilan doesn't really have an answer for that because it was Sabiha.

In Baran's eyes, Sabiha is still sneaky.

But it's the classic overprotective racket and it doesn't leave room for her to be the solution, like she has been in the past, when she would go off on her own. Like with his dad's paralysis, or his mom's stuff. I hope it doesn't become the new norm, that their open love for one another is dependent on her giving up her independent thought and action. That would suck.

Sabiha has decided she's going to tell Dilan she's her mom.*

In the morning, Sabiha calls and says she'll tell Dilan everything. Can she come right over? She will, and she wants to tell Baran right away where she'll be, but where is he? She has to go before Sabiha changes her mind. What to do?

Cevahir shows up at Sabiha's door instead. (Well that's a downer.) Walks right in like he owns the place. Sabiha won't buy Firat's shares. He yells. Sair and Havin face off. (Like it's even a contest.)

Ooooh! But it's not Sair who grabs Havin, it's Cevahir! And he looks a little wild.

Dilan calls for Baran, but he's not around. She leaves anyway. She feels bad about it, but goes anyhow. This seems foolhardy. I know I've said I'm not a fan of the overbearing things he does. I'm not. She made a promise though, and that's different. And one freely given, not coerced. Dilan, chica, come on.

Although if it interrupts Cevahir's grip on Havin, that could be helpful. And then Baran can show up like a boss, all mysterious and knowing, heropanti to Cevahir's madman. Do I know my show or what?

I don't, I guess, because what happens is Sabiha pleads with him and he finally lets go. With a promise that next time, he will kill her. While looking Sabiha in the eye.**

Hasan starts in with Firat again, trying to convince him to keep Derya hanging. She might still be useful. This all happens as Gul comes in with coffee. Firat's head whips around. She's only heard what Hasan said and can't see Firat's face full of 'oh hells no'.
