Baran Is Back!
Quick synopsis: Baran is back, baby! Hasan gets a set-down. Who's on first...duty for bedside with Baran.
Baran has flatlined. The dream sequence continues. Baran is indecisive about choosing between Dilan and his mom; the ICU staff inject him with a stimulant and jump him with the paddles. It's like the 9th time they jumped him with the defibrillator. Man, they are really dragging this out. The whole family is gathered and sobbing. Dilan is pounding on the window. In the dreamscape he finally turns and walks to Dilan; in the ICU the monitor jumps. He's got a pulse again.
Offering baskets are prepared. Cihan wants in on any revenge plans. Firat brings food.
Baran will be moved to a private room, but allowed only 1 visitor. Azade steps forward, but at the same time and without any hesitation Kudret says Dilan's name. Dilan it is. Hasan looks at Firat in a panic and Firat nods in acquiescence. Huh??? I think I missed something in the cultural translation of hospital etiquette. Or gangster etiquette. Or something.
Sabiha shows up again saying she'll do the best for Baran, the doctors keep me apprised, and how did this happen? Hasan looks like he could pop and Gul is onto her. It makes me wonder again, if this is Sabiha's hospital, isn't that bad news? But he's gotten really good care so far. Like, nobody has been paid off to slip him poison or something awful.
Sabiha walks into Baran's room and as Dilan turns away to yell at her, what the heck she is doing there, and at that moment Baran squeezes her hand. Does he know? (#trap) Sabiha is more mournful and focused on vengeance than ever. She looks very snakelike. Dilan turns away from Baran again to say something to her once more but Sabiha walks out. Baran squeezes her hand again, like he thinks she is pulling away. He wakes up for a second and says "don't leave me".
The boys--Kudret, Kerem, Cihan--are all intent on finding the culprit but they don't invite Firat (to play any reindeer games). Azade gets a turn in Baran's room and I guess, talks him up? It's a lot like the vendetta talk, "they don't know who they're messing with", and "have you ever had anyone defeat you? No!" Is that really what he needs right now? Maybe it's along the lines of reminding him all he's been through or maybe it's more for herself, to keep her spirits up. I'm gonna chalk that up to more other country hospital etiquette I don't know. Or Karabey family weirdness.
Hasan visits Sabiha's office in the hospital and lectures her about not working together and making a move without him. Gosh Hasan, you mean like hauling Dilan off to kill her? For realz, Hasan (you rat). Who are you to lecture? Sabhia thinks so too.
Firat has a nice moment with Dilan but then asks why she left in the first place to go to Sabiha (remember, he knows) when she clearly loves his cousin so much? Gul is right there and changes the subject abruptly so Dilan doesn't have to answer.
Now that the worst is over, the family will go home and just make visits. Who will stay with Baran at the hospital? Again, 1 person only please. The ladies argue; it's Dilan, no Azade, no Dilan. Kudret steps in saying his wife has the right and that's who he'll want to see first. Firat does a funny little head tilt in agreement. (He's good at those.) It's settled. And Kudret brought her a book (again, subtitles would be awesome) and it seems to have some significance. She recognizes it. Oh! It's not just for her, she's reading it to him. That's very bedside mannery.
Kudret visits in the morning and Baran smiles in his sleep listening to him talk about when he will have kids of his own. Dilan snuggles next to him in the hospital bed.
He wakes up and they are looking at each other as it ends.
Culturalisms:
The woman who plays Sabiha really does have the most unusual eyes. They have a light or gleam or something that makes them appear to shift even when she is just looking straight ahead. I love that it makes for a great villainous trait, but truly, they are lovely eyes.
Yelling at the tv:
Dilan says she wishes she had told him everything from the beginning and they would have found a solution together. Hold up. Who's been saying that? Hmmm. Who made that exact suggestion numerous times? Oh yes, that was me. I said it. I still say it. TELL HIM.
Sometimes when Dilan calls his name, all I can hear is that little French kid with the Red Balloon..."Ball-uhn! Ball-uhn!" to "Bar-ah! Bar-uh!"
We relive a part of the wedding day in her mind, a part I don't think we say before, when he lifts her veil and says, "Welcome, my lady". Holy cow. *fans self* And then the ultimate: the forehead kiss.
2 big ole Hagia Sophias chanted. Very close up shots.
Teaser 162:
Instead of FrownyBaran we now have FuzzyBaran. I like it. Dilan is feeding him soup but he doesn't seem real happy about it. We do, however, get a good look at the book cover in the montage of her doing all the bedside things one does: Zamanin, "Of Time" about a famous Sultana. So says Google.
