Episode #164 Dinner Guest - Part 1
Quick synopsis: Sabiha is a dinner guest at the mansion. Hasan is mooney. Baran is starting to figure it out.
They are standing in the driveway and Baran has asked her again, is what you said at the hospital true? I don't believe you when you deny it. And he takes her chin in his hand to look her in the eye. Ah yes, the old 'look into my eyes trick'. She never can lie when he does that. But they are interrupted by Sabiha's arrival. She is the surprise dinner guest. He looks at Dilan for confirmation. And, does she do a quick shake of the head, 'no'? Maybe they can unite against Sabiha. Shorthand communication would certainly lead us to think so. Baran is watching her closely to see how she acts around Sabiha--what Sabiha is really asking in the subtext--depending on his wife's reactions.
Azade-doom invited her. She just couldn't stand that Baran and Kudret knew about her and she didn't. She must have her say. She's practically Darcy's great aunt Catherine.
Dinner is an amusing affair. Sabiha sits on Dilan's other side, Baran being in his usual spot on her left. Dilan is playing vigorously with a very sharp knife. Baran notices. Gul (accidentally?) sloshes soup on Sabiha's sleeve. Dilan smiles, but then accompanies her to the bathroom to clean up. She pushes. What does Sabiha really want? Why them?
Viran scopes out the place for Turgut. She bugs a guard to let her pass and he calls for verification from...Cihan?
Azade keeps trying to build on the friendship. "We're family," she says to Sabiha. Dilan looks pained. Firat rolls his eyes. Baran can't figure out what's going on with his grandma and this lady. Azade pokes a little more. We heard you lost your husband.
Now this could get good.
But it drops when Havin/Viran* is thwarted with the call to Cihan, who refuses her access to that part of the grounds. Hasan keeps being mooney and even Kudret rolls his eyes. Baran and Dilan go upstairs to change his bandages.
They finish and she is buttoning up his shirt over his bare chest and it has the intimate feel of a married couple that encounters prior have not. It's certainly more tantalizing than their earlier encounters, as close as they might have been. And the look on his face says a thought has just occurred to him. There's something about the way she's acting that he can't fathom. Like maybe that lying-to-protect-your-loved-ones thing is sinking in. He asks her, one more time, and it's like he's trying to help her instead of yelling at her. The change scares the beejeezus out of her and she literally flees--flees!--the room.
Back at dinner Sabiha finds out Cihan wants to be a doctor and offers to help him. Dilan interjects that it's just his first year, there's no need. This catches Baran's attention. He knows how much she cares for him so a refusal of this sort is out of character.
Azade keeps prodding. You and Dilan are so close, like mother and daughter. *cough* Sabiha reiterates what she told Kudret earlier, that she saw Dilan so desperate, took her in and protected her. Scowl and teeth-suck from Baran. Protection detail is his turf, thankyouverymuch.
Kudret confirms what she said, thanking her--and here's what I love--because Dilan is so precious to them, like a saving grace. And with that Kudret has delivered a veiled threat of his own: she's ours, she has the power of this family behind her, she is not an easy target. And I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing when he said it.
He continues: She ended a vendetta, bringing peace. Nothing can get in the way of a love like that. (Totally knew what he was doing.)
Sabiha even looks chastised.
Still he goes on: his recovery is thanks to her, they owe her so much, she's a ray of truth, yadda yadda. It's a reminder for Baran too. And Dilan--she grabs Baran's hand.
Deep breath gang, we're gonna make it. They will, someday, make up.
Hasan. *sigh* He just can't stop himself. At coffee he is enthusiastic. "Our door is always open to you." Baran has already had enough of this whole evening before coffee. At this comment, he does a slow head turn and stare as if to say, this ma house. Even Kudret is like, Dude, no.
Sabiha makes more demands of Dilan when they are huddled in the foyer. Namely, get Turgut out. Or she'll finish what she started (killing Baran). Dilan was supposed to distance herself from him but what Sabiha witnessed tonight certainly speaks to the opposite. They look more united than ever.** But Dilan refuses to be pushed around by her anymore.
And Baran is onto her now. He tells Kerem something's up. Dilan changes when she's around. Something's wrong with Sabiha.
And he gets after his grandma. He knows she's up to something with this dinner invitation behind his back.
FrownyBaran is having a night!
Culturalisms:
Why is one of their dressers in their bedroom lit up from behind with a green light?
Even Hasan gets the obligatory I'm-a-Karabey fancy ring.
Yelling at the tv:
* Did Viran's name change? Is one a given name and one is a nickname?
** Are these people blind? Granted, there's some mixed signals in this one, but crimminy, they don't look pleasant with one another. Of course, Baran isn't FrownyBaran for no reason. So maybe they are all used to the scowl of love.
2 Hagia Sophias chanted.
Teaser 164 Part 2:
The swooniest swoon evah. Gul delivers a desperate ultimatum.
